AGM 2026

The Door Youth Centre held its 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) on May 26, 2026, bringing together youth, volunteers, staff, board members, and community supporters to celebrate another successful year of growth, programming, and community impact. The evening opened with a welcome and land acknowledgement led by Board Chair Rick Desclouds, followed by the approval of the meeting agenda and previous AGM minutes. Throughout the evening, attendees reflected on many of the meaningful programs and opportunities offered during 2025. Highlights included the return of the 3D Printing Program, the Thyme Travels Gardening Program, the Multicultural Young Chefs Program, and Young Men’s Motivational Mondays. These programs continued to provide youth with opportunities to build confidence, learn practical skills, connect with peers, and develop meaningful relationships within a safe and welcoming environment. Youth voices were a central part of the AGM, with several members presenting reflections on programs that impacted them throughout the year. Kylee spoke about the power of play, recreation, and competitive games in helping youth build friendships, confidence, and teamwork. Soliana shared the importance of the monthly Girls Night program and the positive space it creates for girls at The Door. Mohanad highlighted the creativity and learning opportunities found through the 3D Printing Program, while Sylvie spoke about the Thyme Travels Gardening Program, facilitated by former Board Chair Debbie Barton, and the value of hands-on learning and sustainability. Sendike presented on the Multicultural Young Chefs Program, sponsored by the Ottawa Food Bank, sharing how the program allows youth to explore different cultures through food, cooking, and community connection. Lastly, Mohammed spoke about the importance and growing need for Young Men’s Motivational Mondays, facilitated by Youth Worker Vincent and volunteer Elijah, emphasizing the importance of mentorship, open discussions, and creating supportive spaces for young men.

The AGM also recognized the continued dedication of The Door’s current, new, and returning Board Members, whose leadership and support help guide the organization’s mission and future growth within the community. A special welcome was also extended to Ottawa City Councillor Ariel Troster, a longtime supporter and friend of The Door Youth Centre, who attended the event and shared remarks with attendees. One of the highlights of the evening was the awards presentation, where youth, volunteers, and community members were recognized for their dedication and contributions to the centre. The Pillar of the Community Award was granted to Stolen Goods Cocktail Bar for its constant support to the centre. The Door presented $1,000 scholarship awards to Mohammed Hajras, Mel Wan, Christina Kifle, and Sean Reeves. This recognition honors their participation, commitment, and achievements as they advance their academic journeys. The Art Stinson Achievement Award was presented to Gabriel Morales for his outstanding dedication, commitment, and contributions to The Door community over the years. And finally, The Volunteer Appreciation Award was presented to Elijah Dorval for his outstanding commitment, and continued support of youth through many of The Door’s programs, including Young Men’s Motivational Mondays and the well-known Karaoke Fridays. Elijah has played an important role in creating a welcoming and positive environment where youth feel comfortable connecting, expressing themselves, and building confidence. The evening highlighted the strength of The Door’s community partnerships in 2025, which included The City of Ottawa, Ottawa Foodbank, RBC Foundation, SWCHC, and Ottawa Community Foundation, and furthermore, the dedication of its volunteers and staff, and the resilience, leadership, and achievements of the youth who continue to shape the centre every day.
